Permanent Agriculture...

Growing things, designing landscapes and homes, gardens according to the rules, laws and patterns identifiable throughout nature, in each ecosystem... and amongst "primitive" people still-connected to and in-touch with these unwritten laws.

Permaculture was coined by two men from Australia, very familiar (through experience) with many of the methods used by aboriginal cultures they'd studied and lived-among...

If you don't know (or don't know much) about Permaculture, please at least peruse the links at the right related to the subject...

You could make a lifetime study of it, and a whole lifestyle... but all of us, I believe, ought to at least know about Permaculture, and the important worldview and practices it offers for the survival of species planet-wide, including humans.

We need all the help, resources, new paradigms and practices we can use!

New York is America's most ecologically-sustainable large city.

Imagine that.

Largely due to the reduction (b'lieve or not!) in auto usage because of the extensive subway and rail system...

Go NY!

-And now it's time for each of us, in our own households, to take it a step further.

We can green this city more-- and it's up to us, one household at a time, to do it ourselves.

Growing our own veggies, organically, year-round. Composting for rich, nutritious soil and minimized household waste. Gardening on rooftops, windowsills (esp. in winter...), front and back yards, in local community gardens... Starting MORE community gardens, and bringing out our communities to participate-- and reap the delicious, self-produced rewards!

Sprouting year-round... all KINDS of foods: nuts, seeds, beans, grains, lettuces, greens, radishes, wheat (make Sprouted Wheat Bread-- most nutritious y'can get! Yum!!)... Sprouting isn't just alfalfa sprouts and mung beans ("Chinese food" sprouts)... And sprouting gives you these foods at their Maximum Possible Freshness, Maximum Nutritional Value... and it's EASY, not time-consuming for busy NY lifestyles...
